Unofficial election results from the Denton County elections department show that Chris Watts is ahead in the Denton mayoral race with 6,390 votes, or 50.35%, against Brian Beck, who has secured 6,302 votes, or 49.65%.
Background
Watts and Beck forced a runoff when neither candidate secured more than 50% of the vote in the May 2 election. Former District 2 City Council member Beck and former Denton Mayor Chris Watts earned the most votes of the four candidates who ran in the May election.
Watts secured 44.22% with 5,389 votes cast for him and Beck received 34.02% of the vote with 4,146 votes. Angela Brewer finished the race with 17.31% of the votes, or 2,110 ballots cast in her name. Shannon Childs secured 543 votes, or 4.46%, in the May election.
Current Mayor Gerard Hudspeth has served three terms as Denton’s mayor, the maximum number of terms allowed by city policy.
