FDA Recalls Eggs Due to Salmonella Risk

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has classified the massive egg recall from last month as Class I, the agency’s highest severity level, due to salmonella risk. The recall centers around eggs produced by Midwest Poultry Services, L.P. in Texas.

Affected Eggs

The recall includes 1,589,577 dozen white shell eggs and brown cage-free shell eggs (totaling more than 19 million individual eggs) produced at two of the company’s Texas farms. The eggs were sold under multiple brand names, including Kroger, Simple Truth Cage Free, Brookshire’s, Country Morning, and Sunups.

Cartons carrying the code P-1950 or 0840962, along with a Julian date between 157 and 184 printed on the side of the carton, are affected by this recall. Sell-by or best-by dates on the recalled cartons fall between July 20 and Aug. 17, 2026.

What to Do

Anyone who purchased eggs matching the affected codes and date ranges should not consume these eggs and instead return them to their place of purchase for a full refund. Those with questions can contact Midwest Poultry Services at 574-405-9531, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET, or by emailing [email protected].

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reported 98 illnesses and 26 hospitalizations across 17 states in the outbreak linked, in part, to the recalled eggs. If you experience any symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, you should reach out to a medical provider immediately.
