FBI Seizes Devices from Former California Congressman Eric Swalwell at San Francisco Airport

San Francisco — A newly released video captured former U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell being met by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents at San Francisco International Airport on August 15. The footage, obtained by the California Post, shows Swalwell in a black sweatshirt and hat as he deboards his flight and walks toward the gate where several agents await him.

FBI Action at the Airport

According to the video and prior Fox News Digital reporting, the agents seized Swalwell’s cellphone and laptop at the airport. The seizure follows a broader investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct that led Swalwell to resign from Congress in April after 13 years of service.

Background of the Investigation

Swalwell’s resignation came after multiple women, including a former staffer, accused him of sexual misconduct or rape. While he denied the most serious accusations, he acknowledged “mistakes” and said he would fight “serious false allegations” made against him. The investigation also involves his relationship with Christine “Fang Fang” Fang, a woman described by U.S. officials as having suspected ties to China’s Ministry of State Security.

Declassified documents released by the White House’s Government Transparency task force reveal that Swalwell told FBI agents he had “physical relations” with Fang on a handful of occasions, with the last encounter occurring in March 2015. The FBI first interviewed Swalwell in May 2015 and again in March 2016 regarding his connection to Fang.

Public Reaction

Social‑media users quickly mocked Swalwell’s appearance and the FBI encounter. Former Representative George Santos wrote, “I needed this lol,” while a popular conservative account posted, “He’s still cooked.” Others compared his outfit to an Eminem concert look and expressed disbelief at his attire.

Legal and Political Context

The FBI’s actions underscore the seriousness with which federal law‑enforcement agencies are treating allegations of sexual misconduct involving elected officials. The seizure of electronic devices is a standard investigative step when authorities believe the items may contain evidence relevant to a criminal inquiry.

Swalwell also withdrew from the California gubernatorial race earlier this year, ending any further political ambitions at the state level. His resignation and the ongoing investigation have sparked renewed discussion about accountability and transparency among public officials.

Response from Authorities

Fox News Digital reached out to Swalwell’s attorney and the FBI for comment, but no response was received at the time of publication.

As the investigation proceeds, the focus remains on whether the seized devices will yield evidence that substantiates the allegations or clears Swalwell of wrongdoing. The case serves as a reminder that public servants are subject to the same legal standards as any citizen, and that federal agencies will act decisively when credible accusations arise.
