A Florida Atlantic University student has filed a lawsuit against the Delta Tau Delta fraternity, alleging he suffered permanent injuries during a hazing incident in fall 2025. The student claims the hazing occurred off-campus and involved being blindfolded and forced to drink a high-alcohol beverage.
Alleged Incident Details
According to the lawsuit, the student was ordered to consume a large amount of the drink within a short time frame, after which he blacked out and his hand went through glass. The student said fraternity leaders drove him to a hospital and left him there instead of calling 911.
The lawsuit also accuses the national Delta Tau Delta fraternity of negligence, claiming it was aware of a history of hazing incidents, including one at FAU in 2015 and others across the country. FAU’s website states the fraternity was suspended following a fall 2025 incident, though it does not specify if it was the same one described in the lawsuit.
FAU enforces a zero-tolerance policy against actions that recklessly or intentionally endanger a student’s mental or physical health for purposes of initiation, affiliation, or organizational tradition, whether on or off campus. Requests for comment from the university, the national fraternity, the president of the FAU chapter, and the council overseeing Greek life have not yet been returned.
