Father allegedly killed partner, fled with children; arrested and kids recovered in Mexico

Camron Lee was arrested in Primo Tapia, Baja California, after a monthslong search that ended with his two young children, Athena Lee and Mateo Lee, being recovered in Mexico nearly two years after their mother, Angelica Bravo, was found dead in Sacramento. Sacramento Police, the FBI and Mexican authorities worked together on the cross-border operation, and Sacramento County District Attorney Thien Ho says Lee will face murder charges. The children were reunited with their maternal grandmother, and officials say a public tip helped crack the case.

Sacramento officers discovered Angelica Bravo dead inside a home in July 2024, and investigators quickly focused on the father of her children. Authorities say Camron Lee left the area with Athena, then 5, and Mateo, then 4, and that the kids had not been seen since their mother’s death. Local investigators pursued homicide and weapons charges while the case escalated into a federal search for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

Lee was booked on murder charges and four counts of possession of an assault weapon, according to law enforcement announcements. A federal arrest warrant followed in August 2024 as agencies tried to pin down his whereabouts and recover the children. The case grew into a broader, bilingual outreach to the public after months without a confirmed sighting.

In December 2025 the FBI offered rewards for information leading to Lee’s arrest and the children’s recovery, rolling the appeal out through media and social platforms across North America. That campaign aimed to tap bilingual communities on both sides of the border, and investigators say the strategy helped generate critical leads. Prosecutors and detectives emphasized that steady, coordinated outreach can make a real difference in long-running fugitive cases.

The arrest in Primo Tapia came after nearly six months of focused efforts to locate Lee and the children, officials said. Mexican authorities assisted on the ground, and multiple U.S. and international agencies shared intelligence to narrow options. Investigators credited ordinary people for stepping up with information that turned the tide in the case.

“Today’s announcement highlights the impact of the FBI’s reward program,” FBI Sacramento Special Agent in Charge Sid Patel said in a statement. “A single tip brought a fugitive to justice for his alleged crime and reunited a family.” That exact phrasing was put forward by the FBI to underscore the payoff from public involvement and coordinated law enforcement work.

Sacramento Police Department Chief Zachary Bales characterized the arrest as another step toward accountability in Bravo’s death and a signal to the community. “This case sends a clear message that violence will not be tolerated in our community, and those who harm others will be pursued with determination and resolve,” Bales said. “Our thoughts remain with Ms. Bravo’s family and loved ones, and we hope this development brings them a measure of solace as they continue to carry this profound loss.”

Sacramento County District Attorney Thien Ho reaffirmed that charges would be pursued, stressing persistent focus by prosecutors and law enforcement. “This arrest is a powerful reminder that no matter how much time passes, our resolve to pursue justice and protect our community never fades,” Ho said. The DA’s office will move forward with legal proceedings now that Lee is back in custody and the children are safe with family.

With the children reunited with their maternal grandmother, authorities are turning their attention to preparing the case for trial and ensuring the youngsters receive appropriate care and support. Officials say ongoing cooperation with Mexican counterparts was essential to locating the family and carrying out the arrest. The investigation remains active as prosecutors prepare charges and law enforcement wraps up its fieldwork.
