A family in Park Hills held a Christmas in July fundraiser to support ALS research, complete with presents, Santa Claus, and cookies. The event was organized by the family of retired dentist Dr. Thomas Huller, who was diagnosed with ALS two years ago.
Dr. Huller’s family sold copies of their new Christmas book, ‘The Jack Story,’ a story that has been a family tradition during the holidays. Since Dr. Huller’s diagnosis, it has become difficult for him to share the story himself.
‘It’s affecting his speech and his breath, so he wasn’t able to tell The Jack Story after 2024. So, we decided to keep the tradition alive by putting it in print and now my brother tells the story to our family on Christmas Eve and we’re sharing the story with the rest of the community,’ said Katie Dieruf, Dr. Huller’s daughter.
Dr. Huller attended the event and signed books using a special stamp. The story is about a young, curious, and mischievous boy who defies his parents by sneaking downstairs on Christmas Eve, only to be caught by Santa. It is a tale of forgiveness, learning from mistakes, and family tradition.
All proceeds from the event were donated to ALS research.
