Fairfax County detectives are asking residents of Groveton and surrounding neighborhoods to assist in locating the individual responsible for a violent shooting that left a driver with multiple gunshot wounds.

What happened

On September 12, at approximately 10:25 a.m., officers responded to a report of gunfire in the 3500 block of Robert E. Lee Place, an apartment‑complex parking lot in Groveton, Virginia. When they arrived, they found a man inside a damaged vehicle, bleeding from several gunshot wounds.

According to the preliminary investigation, the victim was driving through the lot when a suspect approached on foot and fired several rounds into the driver’s side of the car. Seven bullet holes were later counted in the back‑seat window. After being shot, the driver attempted to flee, losing control of the vehicle and striking two unoccupied parked cars before coming to a stop.
