Exus Renewables expands portfolio with 715 MW solar acquisition in Louisiana and Wisconsin

Exus Renewables North America announced the acquisition of four large‑scale solar projects in Louisiana and Wisconsin, adding roughly 715 megawatts of renewable capacity to its portfolio. The deal, disclosed by Exus CEO Jim Spencer, doubles the company’s existing holdings and underscores the growing demand for clean electricity from data‑center operators.

Projects and Capacity

The newly acquired assets include:

  • Maple Grove Solar 1 and 2 – a two‑phase, 310‑MW development in Barron County, Wisconsin.
  • Bayou Teche Solar – a 125‑MW project in St. Mary Parish, Louisiana.
  • Bayou Chicot Solar – a 280‑MW project in Evangeline Parish, Louisiana.

Combined, the projects can generate enough electricity to power more than half a million homes, according to Spencer.

Why the Acquisition Matters

U.S. electricity demand hit record highs this year, driven largely by the rapid expansion of data centers and broader electrification trends. Spencer said that when renewable power is available for data‑center use, “it will be contracted,” highlighting the strategic value of having ready‑to‑build solar assets in regions where demand outpaces supply.

Both Louisiana and Wisconsin have emerged as hot spots for data‑center development, often outpacing the capacity of local utilities and grid operators. Exus believes the projects can be interconnected quickly, giving the company a competitive edge in securing long‑term offtake agreements.

Industry Perspectives

Chris McKissack, CEO of ibV Energy Partners, noted that the projects were already well‑engineered and community‑friendly, making them attractive to buyers. “Projects that are ready to build, projects that are well developed, projects that are engineered well, fit within the community… are the ones that will trade at a premium and get built,” he said.

Spencer expects to line up offtake agreements within four to six weeks, targeting both large‑tech hyperscalers and utilities that serve data‑center loads. No financial terms of the transaction were disclosed.

Local Impact

For the communities in Barron County and the two Louisiana parishes, the projects promise construction jobs and long‑term tax revenue while delivering clean energy that supports the region’s economic growth. The swift interconnection timeline also helps local grids manage the increasing load from data‑center operations without compromising reliability.

By expanding its renewable portfolio, Exus positions itself as a reliable partner for businesses seeking to power critical infrastructure with sustainable energy, aligning with broader national goals of energy independence and reduced carbon emissions.
