ESPN announced a media rights agreement to stream this season’s Women’s Pro Baseball League games. The WBPL’s inaugural regular season starts Saturday and runs through Sept. 6, followed by the best-of-three semifinals and best-of-five championship series.
Four teams are participating: New York Heights, Boston Hunters, Los Angeles Queens and San Francisco Firebells. All games will be played at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, Ill. ESPN will stream 37 games, including 11 regular-season contests that also will be simulcast on the Scripps Sports Network.
“Bringing the WPBL to ESPN is an exciting addition to our growing baseball offerings,” said Ashley O’Connor, vice president of programming at ESPN. “This agreement enhances our already strong baseball lineup, underscores our dedication to women’s sports, and provides fans with access to a compelling new professional league.”
Coverage on ESPN Select kicks off on Saturday at 6 p.m. ET with Los Angeles facing New York.
