Eric Prewitt, Director of Financial Aid at Shelton State Community College, has been selected as the 2026 State of Alabama’s Veteran of the Year. He is now a candidate in the Higher Education category for National Veteran of the Year, as named by Military Friendly.
Prewitt’s Service and Achievements
Prewitt is a decorated veteran of the United States Navy, having served for eight years and receiving Navy Achievement Medals and a nomination for Sailor of the Year. After his military service, he reenrolled at Shelton State Community College and later earned a bachelor’s degree from Athens State University.
Prewitt has also served in various roles at Shelton State, including his current position as Director of Financial Aid. He is also the President of Shelton State Community College’s Alabama Education Association and serves on the National Committee of the Collegiate 100.
Prewitt is married to Dr. Nicole B. Prewitt, and they have two children, Daevion and Erin. The National Veteran of the Year will be selected by the public by July 4th, and votes can be cast for Eric Prewitt online.
