Elon Musk has announced that his AI platform Grok Imagine will produce a full-length, historically accurate film of the Odyssey by the end of the year. This comes after Christopher Nolan’s version of the ancient Greek epic was released in movie theaters worldwide.
Musk’s Vision
Musk made the statement on his social media platform X, sharing a link to a three-minute clip of a scene between Odysseus and the nymph Calypso, created by Grok Imagine. He also responded to a user’s suggestion to fund Mel Gibson’s historically accurate adaptation of the Odyssey, saying ‘I’m down’.
Musk has been critical of Nolan’s version, particularly the casting decisions. He previously stated that Nolan ‘desecrated Homer’ and ‘groveled on his knees’ to meet ‘woke rules’ for an Oscar. Musk also expressed his disagreement with Nolan’s casting of Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy.
Box Office Success
Nolan’s adaptation has been a commercial success, earning over $264 million at the box office on its opening weekend. Despite Musk’s criticism, the film’s success is unlikely to be affected.
