A sculpture called the ‘Giant Peach’ by artist Jan Kirsh, located outside Georgia Grace Café on Main Street in Ellicott City, can remain where it is after a judge’s ruling. The Howard County Historic Preservation Commission had previously ruled that the sculpture needed to be taken down or moved due to its size and the fact that it obscured part of the front of the café.
The Ruling
The commission’s decision was appealed by the Fund for Art in Ellicott City, which had commissioned the sculpture. The case was heard in the Circuit Court for Howard County, and Judge Harry C. Storm issued a ruling on June 22, 2026, vacating the commission’s denial of the application and determining that the sculpture can remain in place.
