As the Aug. 18 primary election approaches, Phil Gierke is running for Evansville mayor. He recently answered questions about his candidacy.
Challenges Facing Evansville
One of Evansville’s biggest challenges is balancing limited revenue with growing community needs. Gierke plans to address this by developing written annual, five-year, ten-year, and twenty-year plans that establish clear priorities and provide a roadmap for the community’s future.
Gierke also aims to restore trust, strengthen communication, and bring back the sense of community that has always made Evansville a great place to live. He believes in working together to make thoughtful decisions that protect taxpayers while investing in the town’s future.
Qualifications and Experience
Gierke’s background has prepared him to approach the challenges facing Evansville with practical experience, fiscal responsibility, and a focus on results. As a business owner and manager, he has learned the importance of budgeting, long-term planning, accountability, and making difficult decisions while living within available resources.
Gierke also served on the Evansville Town Council from 2023 to 2024, gaining firsthand knowledge of the Town’s operations, finances, and issues that matter most to residents. Earlier in his career, he served as Sports Coordinator for the City of Casper, working closely with the City Manager and City Council.
