An elderly woman is in critical condition after being struck by a car in Stamford on Friday morning. The woman was crossing Progress Drive near Stillwater Avenue when she was struck by a 2022 Ford Escape driven by a 28-year-old Stamford resident.
The driver remained at the scene and spoke with responding officers. The woman was taken to Stamford Hospital in an ambulance, where she was found to have life-threatening injuries.
Police said the woman was not carrying any identification, and her identity is still unknown. She is described as an elderly woman, possibly Hispanic, who is about 5 feet tall with a thin build and curly dark and gray hair. Police said she may have been walking in the area collecting bottles and cans.
The Stamford Police Department is asking anyone who may recognize the woman or anyone who witnessed the crash to contact the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad at 203-977-4712 or the Stamford Police Dispatch Center at 203-977-4444.
