The Salvation Army’s 8th Music & Arts Conservatory in El Paso, Texas, recently graduated 35 students who began the program on June 15. The conservatory offers daily lessons on music theory, brass band, guitar, choir, and drama to broaden the students’ fine arts horizons.
Character Building Through Arts
Luis Villanueva, El Paso Salvation Army Commanding Officer, stated that the program aims to build character in the youth by teaching them integrity, respect, loyalty, and helping their families stick together. The all-inclusive program charges a registration fee of $30, making it accessible to students from all backgrounds.
Villanueva also mentioned that the Salvation Army is planning to organize a weekly after-school program for local children. He emphasized the importance of community support for the program’s continuation, citing the costs of field trips and hiring full-time professional teachers.
The Salvation Army is looking to expand the program, with plans to have a bigger graduating class next year. For more information about the conservatory or to donate, visit the Salvation Army’s website.
