El Paso high school students are set to perform in a free presentation of Shrek the Musical at Coronado High School. The play, which was put together by students and faculty from across the El Paso Independent School District, features a cast of talented young actors, including Enzo Barraza as Donkey and Joy Rios as Princess Fiona.
Bringing the Musical to Life
The students have been working tirelessly for several weeks to bring the musical to life, with rehearsals taking place both in and out of costume. The production also features props, backdrops, and other items created by students, as well as music performed by student musicians. Ruben Martinez, who plays the titular role of Shrek, shared some words of encouragement for those interested in getting into theatre, saying, ‘Put yourself out there and don’t be afraid about what other people think of you, and don’t be afraid of what might happen. Just go out there and shoot your shot and it might work, it might not. Keep on trying again and you’ll have fun.’
