El Paso Electric has proposed a $70 million rate increase in Doña Ana County, New Mexico, which would see the average home pay about $42 more per month next year.
Investment in Infrastructure
The increase is intended to recover costs from over $400 million in investments to New Mexico infrastructure, including poles, wires, substations, and transformers.
Residents expressed frustration at a public meeting, with one attendee noting that the increase would be a significant burden for many families.
El Paso Electric said that they likely won’t get a resolution on the rate increase until some point next year, but the process has officially begun with these meetings.
