El Paso County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that deputies arrested 23‑year‑old Carlos Calvillo on multiple warrants after a midnight pursuit on Saturday. The incident began in the Horizon area when deputies attempted to pull Calvillo over for failing to yield.
Chase and collision
According to the sheriff’s office, Calvillo ignored several stop signs and led officers on a high‑speed chase that crossed residential streets. During the pursuit he struck a parked, unoccupied vehicle, causing damage to the car but no injuries to anyone nearby.
After the collision, Calvillo exited his vehicle and fled on foot. Deputies searched the immediate area but were unable to locate him at that time.
Warrants and follow‑up
Further investigation uncovered three outstanding warrants for Calvillo: one for evading arrest with a vehicle, another for evading arrest on foot, and a third for hitting an unattended vehicle. With these warrants in hand, deputies continued the search.
Standoff and surrender
At approximately midnight on Sunday, deputies found Calvillo at a residence near the intersection of Rich Beem Boulevard and North Zaragoza Road. Officers reported a brief standoff, during which Calvillo eventually surrendered without further incident.
He was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Downtown Jail. The bond was set at $30,500.
Community impact
The pursuit underscores the challenges law‑enforcement faces in maintaining public safety on El Paso’s busy streets. While no injuries were reported, the incident serves as a reminder for drivers to obey traffic signals and for residents to cooperate with police investigations.
Deputies thanked community members who remained calm during the night’s events and reiterated the department’s commitment to protecting the city’s neighborhoods.
