Families and boaters are enjoying Arcadia Lake ahead of the Fourth of July, while Edmond police stress water safety and responsible boating. Fisherman John Ray said, “We just came out and have some fun on the 4th before it gets busy.”
Water Safety Reminders
Edmond police are reminding visitors to stay safe while celebrating. Lt. Kendal Miller highlighted the importance of having a sober boat operator. “You want to make sure if you are going to enjoy any alcoholic drinks or anything like that you have a sober driver, operator of your boat,” Miller said.
Miller also reminded families that children 12 and under must wear life jackets while in the water. “So, whether you’re coming out to enjoy just the beach or the day use area or something like that, when your kids get in the water in those ages, they need to have a life vest on,” Miller said.
For many families, the holiday is about spending quality time together. “It’s fun. I think it’s good quality time with your family and stuff and just gives you memories,” said Harley Herrell.
