Edgewater Mayor Diezel Depew will not face charges after a woman claimed he hit her with a plastic campaign sign during a disturbance outside the New Smyrna Beach Library. The state attorney’s office announced in a court filing that it will not prosecute Depew.
Incident Details
The incident occurred on a Friday night as campaign signs were being set up. Body-camera footage showed officers separating Depew and other individuals during the disturbance. A woman filed a complaint, alleging she was struck by a sign while Depew was moving it.
Depew called the allegation ‘a baseless political attack’ and said the others involved were supporting Wayne McCloskey’s campaign for mayor.
