Early Emmy Awards to Spotlight ‘The Pitt’, ‘Hacks’ and ‘Pluribus’ with Potential Multiple Wins

Los Angeles – The Television Academy is kicking off the 78th Emmy Awards with two early ceremonies at the Peacock Theater, where more than 100 primetime Emmys will be handed out. The first night, slated for September 6, will be streamed on Hulu and later aired on FXX, while the main primetime ceremony on September 14 will be broadcast live on NBC and streamed on Peacock.

Top‑nominated series poised for big hauls

HBO Max’s medical drama The Pitt entered the season as the overall leader with 25 nominations and could walk away with up to nine awards on Sunday. The show also dominates the drama acting categories, fielding two nominees for best guest actor in a drama and three for best guest actress.

Another HBO Max hit, the comedy Hacks, tied a record with 24 nominations for its fifth and final season. The series could capture as many as a dozen trophies, including several in the guest‑acting categories where five of the seven nominees for best guest actress in a comedy are from the show.

Apple TV’s horror‑comedy Widow’s Bay and the one‑woman‑against‑the‑hivemind drama Pluribus – created by Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan – each have the potential to win up to ten Emmys during the early ceremony.

Special recognitions and posthumous honors

The early ceremony will also feature a posthumous nomination for the late Rob Reiner, who was killed with his wife Michele Singer Reiner in December. Reiner is up for best guest actor in a comedy for his role in The Bear, marking a return to Emmy contention roughly 50 years after his wins for All in the Family.

Five‑time Emmy winner Michael J. Fox is nominated in the same category for portraying a Parkinson’s‑disease patient on the series Shrinking, a role that reflects his personal experience with the condition.

Category shifts add star power

To boost the early night’s appeal, the Academy moved five categories from the September 14 telecast to Sunday, including best supporting actor and actress in a limited series. Nominees in those categories feature familiar faces such as Jason Bateman, Charles Melton, Dakota Fanning and Laurie Metcalf.

Presenters for the early ceremony include Noah Wyle, who is nominated for four Emmys at the main event, and Karolina Wydra and Jeff Hiller from Pluribus.

What to expect from the main ceremony

The September 14 primetime ceremony, hosted by Mariska Hargitay, will continue the awards at the same venue. It will be the first time the Creative Arts Emmys have been rebranded as the opening nights of the Emmy Awards, a move intended to give greater visibility to the behind‑the‑scenes talent that powers television.

Fans can look forward to a blend of drama, comedy and limited‑series honors, with the early ceremony setting the tone for what could be a record‑breaking night of television achievement.
