Eagles veteran defensive end Brandon Graham announces retirement for second time

Philadelphia – At a Jefferson Health Eagles rally on Tuesday, longtime defensive end Brandon Graham announced that he is officially retiring from the NFL for the second time. “I’m officially done. Y’all hearing it from me first,” Graham told the crowd, adding that the team is “in great hands” and that he will continue to offer “wisdom” and support to his teammates.

Family and future plans

Graham emphasized that the decision will be a “great adjustment” for his kids and family. “I’m done. I’m ready to move on. I gotta pull my suits out,” he said, expressing excitement for what lies ahead beyond the gridiron.

Career highlights

The 36‑year‑old veteran leaves the Eagles as the longest‑tenured player in franchise history, holding the record for most regular‑season games played (215) and ranking third in career sacks (79.5). He earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2020 and posted a double‑digit sack season in 2022 with 11 sacks.

Drafted 13th overall in 2010, Graham’s early career was hampered by injuries, prompting doubts about his long‑term impact. He silenced critics by becoming a consistent edge‑rusher, highlighted by a 9.5‑sack season during the Eagles’ 2017 championship run.

Perhaps his most iconic moment came in Super Bowl LII, when he stripped Tom Brady in the closing seconds, sealing the Eagles’ first Lombardi Trophy.

Recent season and final decision

After the Eagles’ 2024 Super Bowl appearance, Graham signed a one‑year contract in October to fill the roster spot left by the sudden retirement of Za’Darius Smith. He appeared in nine games, recording three sacks and three quarterback hits. Although he remained open to returning for the 2025 season, he sought a firm commitment from the organization early in the process—a promise that never materialized.

With that uncertainty resolved, Graham chose to step away, focusing on his family and the next chapter of his life.

Community impact

Beyond the field, Graham has been active in local charitable efforts, often visiting schools and youth programs to mentor young athletes. His retirement marks the end of an era for Philadelphia fans who have watched his growth from a promising rookie to a franchise cornerstone.
