Emergency crews in Hernando County, Florida, responded to a report of a plane crash on Thursday afternoon, only to discover that the downed craft was an unmanned drone. The incident occurred on property owned by Cemex in the 14000 block of Citrus Way in Brooksville.
Units from Hernando County Fire Rescue and the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene shortly before 4 p.m. Upon searching the area, HCFR drone operators spotted the crash site on the Cemex property. The unmanned aerial vehicle caught fire following the impact but the flames did not spread to the surrounding ground or structures.
No injuries were reported in connection with the incident. Officials have not released details on the owner of the drone or the cause of the crash.
