ESTANCIA, N.M. – A significant blaze in the town’s downtown area prompted a multi-department response and temporarily cut power to the entire community.
Torrance County Fire Rescue reported that Estancia Fire called for mutual aid, and crews from four different fire departments across the region joined the effort to bring the fire under control and extinguish the flames.
Central New Mexico Electric Cooperative said it turned off electricity to the whole town as a safety measure. Service was returned to customers at about 4 p.m. Saturday.
Officials are still investigating what sparked the fire. No injuries were reported among residents or emergency personnel.
Authorities continue to assess the scene and will provide more information as the investigation progresses.
