Republican front-runners for governor and U.S. Senate, Byron Donalds and Ashley Moody, held their first campaign event together in Orlando, Florida. The event took place at a local restaurant, where they spoke to supporters about their vision for the state.
Law and Order
Both Donalds and Moody emphasized their commitment to keeping Florida a ‘law and order’ state. They received endorsements from the Florida Police Chiefs Association, which praised their support for law enforcement.
‘We are both committed to making sure that law enforcement in the state of Florida has the tools, the resources, yes, but most importantly, the support of not just leadership, but the communities that they serve,’ Moody said.
Homestead Property Tax Cut
The candidates also discussed a proposed homestead property tax cut that will be on the ballot in November. Donalds stated that if the cut passes, he will ensure that law enforcement has the necessary resources.
‘It’s got a long road to get to 60%, but if it does pass, as we go through the legislative language early next year, we are going to make sure that law enforcement has all the resources available to them,’ Donalds said.
Donalds also responded to allegations in a newly filed civil lawsuit, calling them ‘baseless’ and ‘frivolous.’ The lawsuit stems from a 2022 confrontation with a Collier County School Board member.
