Dollywood unveils tribute projects to honor Dolly Parton as park prepares 2027 reopening

Dollywood, the beloved theme park co‑owned by the late Dolly Parton, revealed a series of tribute projects aimed at preserving the “Queen of Country”‘s legacy while enhancing the visitor experience. The announcements were made Wednesday by park President Eugene Naughton, who outlined the centerpiece of the plan: a serene reflection area built around a new waterfall near the park’s historic chapel.

New tribute features

The reflection area will sit beside the chapel that honors the doctor who delivered Parton at birth, offering guests a quiet space to remember her contributions to music, business, and philanthropy. In addition, Dollywood will introduce a new park character called “The Dream Maker,” designed to embody Parton’s spirit of optimism and generosity. A dedicated footpath will connect the new attractions to existing park routes, encouraging families to explore the park on foot.

Timeline and seasonal reopening

Construction on the projects is already underway, with the park targeting a full rollout in time for the 2027 season. Dollywood typically reopens each spring, drawing tourists from across the nation to the Great Smoky Mountains foothills. The new features are expected to bolster the park’s appeal, reinforcing its role as a major economic engine for the Appalachian region.

Dollywood’s impact on the community

Since its opening, Dollywood has become a cornerstone of the local economy, providing jobs, supporting regional artisans, and attracting millions of visitors annually. The park’s blend of roller coasters, family rides, live music, Appalachian crafts, traditional food, and seasonal festivals has helped sustain small‑town businesses and preserve cultural heritage.

In a statement released after Parton’s passing, Dollywood expressed its sorrow and reaffirmed the late star’s wish that the park remain a place of joy, hope, and togetherness. “Everyone at Dollywood shares the sorrow of countless people around the world touched by Dolly’s warmth, wisdom and generous spirit,” the statement read. “Dolly’s heartfelt wish was that Dollywood always remain a place of joy, hope and togetherness—a space where families and friends could honor her memory, not with silence, but with laughter, music and shared dreams.”

Looking ahead

As the park prepares for its next chapter, the new tribute elements aim to keep Dolly Parton’s message of love, perseverance, and hope alive for future generations. Visitors can look forward to experiencing the new waterfall reflection area, meeting “The Dream Maker,” and strolling the new footpath—all designed to celebrate the enduring influence of a woman whose music and philanthropy transcended generations, geography, and politics.
