A spokesperson for Sen. Ruben Gallego said President Donald Trump is targeting the Arizona Democrat with a Justice Department investigation into his campaign finances.
Investigation Details
The investigation stems from a whistleblower complaint out of Southern California, according to Axios. Gallego’s office does not have independent knowledge of the investigation or what it is seeking to uncover.
The Gallego spokesperson accused the Justice Department of being weaponized and said the administration is trying to quiet those who criticize it. The spokesperson also mentioned that the Senate Ethics Committee recently cleared Gallego of right-wing smears pushed by the administration.
