Detroit police shut down a gas station on the city’s east side, which was accused of selling marijuana and tobacco products to minors. The gas station, located on 7 Mile at Joann near Schoenherr, was the subject of an investigation by the Detroit police’s Vice Unit.
Investigation and Raid
The investigation began in July when a citizen tipped off the police about the gas station selling tobacco to minors. During the investigation, undercover officers made purchases, and a search warrant was executed, resulting in the recovery of over 250 marijuana pre-rolls, THC vapes, nearly $400,000 in cash, and five firearms, one of which was reported stolen.
Detroit Police Chief Bettison expressed his disappointment and frustration, stating, ‘It’s just a betrayal. A betrayal of trust to the community. But we’re going to hold them accountable: you don’t get to deal drugs and sell poison for our kids. We’re not going to tolerate it at all.’ No arrests were made, but a warrant has been submitted to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
