Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Celebrates Local Heroes at Inaugural Awards

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office hosted its first annual awards ceremony at Caldera High School in Bend, Oregon, recognizing the outstanding service and heroism of deputies, staff, and community members across Central Oregon. This event served as a platform to honor those who have gone above and beyond in their duties to protect and enhance the community’s livability.

Honoring Courage and Service

The ceremony featured a variety of accolades, including the Life Saving Medal, awarded to individuals who took deliberate action to save lives in critical situations. The Sheriff’s Medal was also presented, recognizing exceptional courage that surpasses the normal call of duty.

In addition to these honors, the event highlighted community-minded leadership through two legacy awards, named in memory of fallen or past department members. Officer Lauren Craven was posthumously awarded the Sheriff’s Star, ensuring that the memory and legacy of those who served before are remembered.

Community and Celebration

Longtime Central Oregon radio broadcaster Dave Clemens, host of The Dave Clemens Experience on 105.7 KQAK, emceed the evening. Attendees enjoyed a special musical performance by Chance Mott, a sophomore fiddle player and local talent who has performed at a Grand Ole Opry pre-show. Mott was also recognized with the Master of Ceremony Award.

Organizers emphasized the importance of formally celebrating those who consistently contribute to the safety and well-being of Deschutes County. This gathering not only honored individual achievements but also reinforced the community’s shared values of service and heroism.
