DeSantis Picks 12 For Florida College Boards

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has announced a wave of selections for two state college boards, tapping a dozen business leaders, attorneys, and medical professionals to help guide local higher education. The latest round of new and returning trustees will serve the districts for Lake-Sumter State College and Florida Southwestern State College.

Lake-Sumter State College Appointments

At Lake-Sumter State College, the board is picking up two new faces and keeping one veteran member. Dr. Dan Boggus, a physician with Aegis Medical Group and an active member of both the state and national Academy of Family Physicians, is joining the group. He is stepping in alongside Matt Silbernagel, who splits his time as an area contract manager for Meta Platforms and an attorney at Nardella & Nardella. Clarence “Steven” Munz was chosen to stay on for another term. Munz is an Army veteran who owns Galaxy Home Solutions and 5M Livestock Company, and locals might also know him as the founder of The Villages Pop Warner Football League.

Florida Southwestern State College Appointments

Meanwhile, the Florida Southwestern State College board is seeing nine total appointments, blending fresh arrivals with a slate of reappointments. The three brand-new picks include J. Keith Arnold, a principal at his own firm who once made history as the youngest Majority Leader in the Florida House of Representatives. Joining him is Jacobs Engineering project manager John Dulmer, along with Navy veteran and physical therapist Dewayne Moore, who runs the Dewayne Moore Foundation.

Six current members are holding onto their seats at Florida Southwestern. Business owner Julia du Plooy and Justice Department trial attorney Kristina Heuser were both tapped by the governor to stay. Eviana Martin, an attorney with the Martin Law Firm, and Lisa Metcalfe Swinto, a regional director for Associated Builders & Contractors, will also continue their service on the board. Rounding out the returning group are Denise Murphy, the general manager of The Players Club & Spa, and commercial realtor Danny Nix, who currently serves as a state representative for Florida’s District 75.

Before any of these individuals can officially take or retain their posts on the college boards, the Florida Senate will need to confirm the appointments.
