A shooting occurred in the 6600 block of NW 26th Street in Des Moines, leaving one person hospitalized. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call and responded to the scene, where they found the victim and provided aid.
Arrest Made
The victim provided the suspect’s name and location before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care. The suspect, identified as Jaida Martinez, 23, was taken into custody without incident. Martinez is charged with willful injury – causing serious injury, persons ineligible to carry dangerous weapons, and possession of a controlled substance.
Deputies say the shooting was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing danger to the public.
