IMPACT Community Action Partnership and the Des Moines Fire Department are asking for donations to help families stay cool this summer. Donations of new, unopened fans and window air conditioning units are now being accepted at Des Moines fire stations. Financial donations can also be made through IMPACT’s website and marked for cooling assistance.
Organizers said community support is critical, as federal cooling funds have been exhausted. They also noted that extreme heat remains the deadliest form of weather in the United States.
