Palm Beach County deputies shot and killed an 18-year-old man in West Palm Beach during a violent confrontation with his father, prompting an investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
Incident Details
Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said deputies responded to a welfare check at a home on Hope Valley Street shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday. The call was made by the young man’s mother, who was concerned about her son’s behavior.
When deputies arrived, Bradshaw said they heard screaming inside the home. Upon entering, they found the father and son fighting, with the son holding a knife. One deputy attempted to use a Taser on the 18-year-old, but Bradshaw said it was ineffective, and the struggle continued.
The 18-year-old was taken to a hospital, where he later died. His identity has not been released. The two deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave.
