A terrifying night for one Flagler County family ended in relief after deputies found a missing 14-year-old girl with autism who became lost while riding her bike after dark.
Body camera video captured the emotional moments after deputies located the teen. The girl had been riding her bike on Wednesday evening but became disoriented and couldn’t find her way back home. She ended up lost along a trail near Peavy Grade in Palm Coast.
Her mother, Amber Toel, said she received a call from her daughter and immediately started searching for her. Toel said her daughter’s phone was dead, and she was getting scared. Toel called 911, and Flagler County Sheriff’s deputies responded and launched a search of the area.
Using drones and searching along nearby trails and railroad tracks, deputies located the teen about 30 minutes later. Toel said her daughter was missing for more than two hours. Luckily, the girl’s electric bike had a headlamp, which deputies could see in the distance.
Body camera video shows deputies hugging the frightened teen before reuniting her with her mother. Toel said she felt a mix of emotions, including relief and frustration, when she was finally reunited with her daughter.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office praised the deputies involved, saying their quick response and coordinated search helped bring the girl home safely. No injuries were reported.
