Denver’s City Park Bandstand to Be Rebuilt After Devastating Fire

The City Park bandstand, a cherished historic structure in Denver, will undergo a complete reconstruction after a fire in March left it beyond repair. The nearly century-old bandstand, which has been a focal point for community events, was severely damaged, forcing City Park Jazz to resort to a mobile stage for its summer concert series.

Community Efforts and Funding

Denver Parks and Recreation announced that a structural assessment confirmed the bandstand’s unsalvageable condition, necessitating its demolition this fall. Local landscape architecture firm Mundus Bishop has been commissioned to design the new bandstand, which is expected to be ready for the 2027 City Park Jazz season.

The financial burden of meeting the insurance deductible, estimated at $250,000, is being addressed through community support. Local neighborhood groups and the TV news show Next with Kyle Clark have collectively raised $120,000. The city has committed to covering the remaining costs through continued fundraising efforts and existing funds.

Community Involvement

City staff, alongside representatives from Mundus Bishop, will engage with community members at City Park Jazz on June 28 to discuss the reconstruction project. This initiative underscores the importance of community involvement in preserving and enhancing local landmarks.

While the exact cause of the fire remains undetermined, the focus remains on rebuilding and revitalizing this significant community asset.
