This Saturday, the Red Bull Soapbox Race will take place in Denver, featuring 46 teams with imaginative vehicles. The competition will be held at the Empower Field parking lot, and spectators can attend for free.
Race Details
The soapbox racers must be human-powered, no more than 6 feet wide and 12 feet long, and weigh no more than 176 pounds without the driver. Teams will be scored on design, pre-race performance, and showmanship.
One of the teams, Mannequin Mayhem, consists of friends from Denver who were inspired by an ad for the event on Instagram. They designed their cart, Crash Cart Carl, by watching crash compilations from previous Red Bull soapbox races and trying to avoid common mistakes.
The team’s main priority is to have fun, but they also hope to be competitive. The panel of judges includes Denver sports personalities, athletes, and online influencers.
Parking permits will be available for purchase on the day of the event, and the race day schedule includes an opening ceremony at 12 p.m. and awards at 3:30 p.m.
