Denton launches four‑phase micro‑surfacing project to improve city streets this September

In a proactive effort to extend the life of Denton’s well‑maintained road network, the city’s Streets Department announced a city‑wide micro‑surfacing project that will run throughout September. The four‑phase plan targets a total of 64 streets, ranging from quiet residential lanes to busy arterial routes.

Project timeline and scope

The work began on Sept. 9 and is scheduled to conclude on Sept. 29. Each phase will focus on a specific group of streets:

  • Phase 1 (Sept. 9‑12): 20 roads
  • Phase 2 (Sept. 14‑19): 30 roads
  • Phase 3 (Sept. 21‑25): 13 roads
  • Phase 4 (Sept. 28‑29): 1 road

Micro‑surfacing involves applying a thin, polymer‑enhanced coating to the top layer of pavement. The process typically takes four to six hours per segment and is performed between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Once the coating cures, the road is reopened to traffic.

What residents can expect

Households affected by any closures will receive a door‑hanger pamphlet that includes the scheduled work date, a reminder to move vehicles off the roadway before crews arrive, and contact information for the on‑site superintendent. The city also emphasized that residents should not enter or leave their homes while the surface cures, as safety is a top priority.

To keep the community informed, the Streets Department will post real‑time updates on its official social‑media channels. A complete list of the streets involved in each phase is available on the city’s website.

Why micro‑surfacing matters

According to the city release, micro‑surfacing is a cost‑effective method that extends pavement lifespan without the need for full‑depth reconstruction. By addressing surface wear early, Denton can preserve the smooth driving experience residents expect while reducing long‑term maintenance expenses.

Supporting local families and businesses

Well‑maintained streets are essential for families commuting to work, school, and church, as well as for local businesses that rely on reliable transportation routes. The timely completion of this project reflects the administration’s commitment to safeguarding the community’s daily routines and supporting the local economy.

Looking ahead

The city plans to evaluate the results of the micro‑surfacing effort once all phases are complete. Successful outcomes could lead to additional resurfacing projects in other neighborhoods, further reinforcing Denton’s reputation as a well‑kept, family‑friendly city.
