Green Township’s beloved Halloween tradition, the Dent Schoolhouse, is back for its 30th season, opening Friday and running through Nov. 1. Co‑owner Bud Stross says the milestone is a chance to “raise the bar” for the thousands of families who make the haunted house a yearly pilgrimage.

Major upgrades enhance the experience

Visitors this year will notice a state‑of‑the‑art immersive audio system that surrounds guests with music, sound effects and deep bass, creating a more visceral sense of tension. “It’s all about immersion,” Stross explained. “We want guests to feel the sound around them, not just hear it as they walk through the attraction.”

The basement, long a centerpiece of the haunt, has been completely renovated. The new set features roughly 3,000 hand‑cut foam bricks and about 80 hand‑sculpted wooden timbers, offering a richer, more detailed environment for thrill‑seekers.

Introducing a new character

Adding to the fresh lineup is a brand‑new figure named Mr. Shady, described as a mysterious “dream dealer” with oversized hands and a skull‑like face. The character is designed to heighten the eerie atmosphere and give repeat visitors something novel to discover.

Stross credits the Dent Schoolhouse’s longevity to the unwavering support of guests, actors and staff. “Dent has become part of Cincinnati’s Halloween tradition, and we would not be here without the community,” he said.
