Denison Triumphs Over ETBU in NCAA Division III Tournament

In a dramatic conclusion to their season, East Texas Baptist University (ETBU) was eliminated from the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament by Denison University. The game, held on Monday, saw Denison rally with a seven-run seventh inning to secure an 11-7 victory over the Tigers.

Early Lead for ETBU

ETBU started strong, with Joaquin Costa delivering an RBI single with the bases loaded in the first inning. Jobee Boone followed with a base hit, contributing to a four-run opening frame that gave the Tigers an early advantage. By maintaining a 7-3 lead into the seventh inning, ETBU seemed poised for success.

Denison’s Comeback

However, Denison’s offense erupted late in the game. Cade Nowik hit a two-run home run to left field, and a subsequent throwing error allowed another runner on base. Erik Sundgren then tied the game with a two-run shot of his own. Later in the inning, Andrew Fazio’s run-scoring single completed the seven-run rally, securing Denison’s victory.

This win followed an earlier game on Monday morning, where Denison defeated ETBU 12-3, setting the stage for the decisive matchup.
