Republicans Urged to Highlight Achievements Ahead of 2026 Midterms

As the 2026 midterm elections draw near, Republicans are being advised to focus on their significant achievements under President Donald Trump’s second term. Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich has suggested a strategy similar to his 1994 ‘Contract with America,’ urging the party to highlight their accomplishments.

Legislative Successes

Among the notable legislative victories is the Working Families Tax Cut, part of the ‘Big Beautiful Bill,’ which extended the 2017 tax cuts, eliminated taxes on tips and overtime, and ended taxes on Social Security for most seniors. This legislation also expanded child and childcare tax credits, allowed businesses to write off major investments, made permanent a 20% small-business tax deduction, and expanded access to zero-deductible telehealth services. Notably, this comprehensive bill did not receive a single Democratic vote.

In contrast, Democrats have been criticized for their lack of introspection following their 2024 election losses, attributed to the policies of the Biden administration and the promises of then-Vice President Kamala Harris. The Democratic Party’s shift towards more radical ideas, such as abolishing the Electoral College and packing the Supreme Court, is seen as moving away from mainstream American values.

Energy and Health Initiatives

Republicans are also encouraged to communicate their successes in energy policy, which have generated over $4 billion in new lease revenues and increased domestic energy production. These efforts, along with a strategic resolution to the Iran conflict, aim to provide relief from high gas prices.

Health initiatives under the MAHA (Make America Healthy Again) movement, led by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., have also been significant. The elimination of carcinogenic artificial food dyes and the reevaluation of vaccine efficacy are part of efforts to give families more health choices. The ‘Eat Real Food’ campaign promotes a shift towards whole foods, reflecting positive changes seen by families in grocery stores and healthcare settings.

With these accomplishments, Republicans are positioned to appeal to voters by emphasizing their role in fostering economic prosperity and health improvements. The upcoming midterms present an opportunity for the party to reinforce their message and connect with constituents on these critical issues.
