Demopolis launches fundraising drive for new DREAM Center children’s museum

Demopolis, Ala. – Residents of Demopolis are being asked to rally behind a new cultural and educational project: the Demopolis DREAM Center. The nonprofit initiative aims to open a children’s museum that blends discovery, research, education, art and museum experiences—an acronym reflected in its name.

Local leaders drive the vision

Dr. Brittney Anderson, a longtime advocate for youth enrichment, said the concept has been a personal dream for years. “It is a vision that I’ve had for a long time, and I’m excited to be able to bring it here,” Anderson told the West Alabama Newsroom.

Anderson is joined by founding board members Carolyn Moore and Suzanne Young, who together are coordinating the fundraising effort. Young explained the acronym, noting, “DREAM is actually an acronym. It’s for Discovery, Research, Education, Art and Museum.” The trio emphasizes that the center fills a gap in rural Alabama, providing hands‑on learning opportunities that are otherwise scarce.

STEAM‑centered exhibits already on hand

The museum’s planned exhibits will focus on STEAM—Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math. Several interactive displays have already been donated by the Children’s Hands‑On Museum in Tuscaloosa, giving the project a solid foundation. “It gives us the beginning of the infrastructure for the museum,” Anderson said.

Capital campaign opens

To fund construction, acquisition of additional exhibits, and operational costs, the DREAM Center has launched a capital campaign. Community members can contribute by texting the keyword demopolisdream to 53555. Moore stressed the long‑term impact of the project: “We need the entire community to help us with this project. Not only will it have an impact on us now, but for generations to come.”

The organizers hope to break ground later this year and have the museum open its doors by early 2028. If successful, the DREAM Center will become a hub for families, schools, and after‑school programs, fostering curiosity and learning in a region that values tradition and strong family ties.

How to get involved

In addition to text donations, the board is seeking volunteers to assist with event planning, exhibit installation, and educational programming. Local businesses are also being approached for sponsorships and in‑kind contributions. Residents are encouraged to spread the word, share the campaign on social media, and attend upcoming informational meetings scheduled at the Demopolis City Hall.

The DREAM Center represents a community‑driven effort to enrich the lives of Demopolis’s youngest citizens, aligning with the city’s commitment to family, faith, and individual liberty by providing a safe, educational environment where children can explore and grow.
