Jaclyn Smith to sign memoir at Barnes & Noble in Los Angeles Saturday

Los Angeles – Fans of the classic TV series “Charlie’s Angels” have a chance to meet the show’s original “angel” this weekend. Jaclyn Smith, who starred alongside Kate Jackson and Farrah Fawcett‑Majors, will be at the Barnes & Noble located in The Grove on Saturday at 11 a.m. to sign copies of her newly released memoir, I Once Knew a Guy Named Charlie.

In the book, Smith reflects on her rise to fame, the challenges of celebrity, and the lasting impact of the series. She notes that the three women of “Charlie’s Angels” were “not ornaments but agents, competent and strong, really central in a story,” a groundbreaking portrayal that helped pave the way for women in television.

From TV stardom to entrepreneurship

Beyond her acting career, Smith built a successful business profile. She appeared in more than 100 commercials and maintained a 40‑year partnership with Kmart, becoming one of the first celebrity‑endorsed brands. Today she markets a fragrance called Jackie and continues to explore new ventures.

Smith also shares personal anecdotes from her life, including a frightening incident when she received a threatening phone call while in the hospital after giving birth to her son. “I had to leave the hospital with armed guards,” she recalled, describing how fame can become overwhelming.

Remembering Farrah Fawcett‑Majors

The memoir includes a heartfelt chapter about her longtime friend Farrah Fawcett‑Majors. Smith describes Fawcett‑Majors as “an 8×10 glassy come to life” and recounts a poignant final dinner they shared, highlighting the deep sisterhood that formed among the original Angels.

Smith also reflects on the iconic white string bikini she wore on the show, noting that she hopes future generations, including her grandchildren, will see it. “That is what people remember,” she said, “and I would like my grandchildren to see it too.”

Local event details

The book signing will take place at the Barnes & Noble in The Grove, Los Angeles, on Saturday, September 19, at 11 a.m. Attendees can purchase the memoir on site and receive a signed copy from the actress herself. The event is free and open to the public, though space may be limited.

In addition to the signing, ABC7’s “On The Red Carpet” is producing a 30‑minute special titled “On The Red Carpet Icons: Jaclyn Smith,” which will air locally in the Los Angeles area on Saturday, September 19, at 9 p.m. The special will also be available on the On The Red Carpet YouTube channel for viewers outside the market.

Smith’s memoir offers a behind‑the‑scenes look at a career that spanned television, advertising, and entrepreneurship, while also providing insight into the personal sacrifices and joys that come with fame. For longtime fans and newcomers alike, the Saturday signing presents a unique opportunity to hear her story directly from the star who helped define a generation of television heroines.
