In a heartening display of community spirit, members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. gathered in Grapevine, Texas, to celebrate their 50th regional convention. The sorority, known for its commitment to service and sisterhood, partnered with Grapevine Relief and Community Exchange (GRACE) for a day dedicated to community service.
Impact Day Activities
On this special day, over 5,000 sorority members came together to make a tangible impact in the community. They were involved in various activities, including unloading clothing donations, sorting items, inspecting food products for expiration dates, and assisting with cashier duties by bagging and wrapping purchases. The members also took on tasks such as handling glassware, maintaining and cleaning the site, breaking down boxes for recycling, and thoroughly testing and inspecting all donations to ensure quality and safety.
In addition to these hands-on activities, the sorority members participated in an affirmation exchange, writing over 4,000 anonymous encouragement cards to families, spreading positivity and hope throughout the community.
A Legacy of Service
Cheryl W. Turner, President of Delta Sigma Theta International, emphasized the sorority’s mission-driven approach, stating, “Togetherness, service, and sisterhood are all driven by a purposeful mission.” The sorority, founded in 1913, has a long-standing tradition of servant leadership and social action, making a positive and lasting impact on communities worldwide.
