A Delta flight from Atlanta to Orlando was forced to make an emergency landing on a taxiway at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Saturday morning. The aircraft, carrying approximately 200 passengers and six crew members, reported a smoke condition in the flight deck and declared an emergency.
Emergency Landing and Evacuation
The flight crew followed procedures to return to the airport, and evacuation slides were deployed. Passengers and crew departed the plane on the taxiway before being bused to the terminal. One crew member and one customer sought medical attention.
The FAA said in a statement that the aircraft landed safely around 8 a.m. and that the agency will investigate the incident. Video of the incident posted to social media shows passengers frantically escaping the plane via its inflatable emergency slides on an airport taxiway.
