DC JazzFest Returns to The Wharf for Labor Day Weekend Celebrations

Washington, D.C. – Music lovers in the nation’s capital can look forward to five days of live jazz as DC JazzFest returns for Labor Day weekend. The festival runs from Wednesday, September 2, through Sunday, September 6, with a marquee two‑day celebration at The Wharf on September 5 and 6.

Festival theme and schedule

Marking the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary, this year’s theme, “The Future of Jazz: America’s Next 250 Years,” invites audiences to explore how jazz will evolve over the next two and a half centuries. Opening night performances kick off on September 2 at Hamilton Live and the intimate Mr. Henry’s venue.

Throughout the week, concerts and special events will be staged at venues across the District, including the Kreeger Museum, St. Vincent Wine, Takoma Station Tavern, Westminster Church, Villa Albertine, Union Stage, Pearl Street Warehouse, and Arena Stage. The diverse lineup features established jazz icons alongside emerging artists who blend the genre with global sounds, pop, hip‑hop, Latin rhythms, gospel, country, and the blues.

Wharf weekend highlights

The Wharf, located at 1001 7th St. SW along the Potomac River, will host the festival’s headline performances on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 10 p.m. each day. Ticket tiers include Preferred Seating, VIP, and Ultimate VIP options, which grant access to shows at Arena Stage, Union Stage, and Pearl Street Warehouse on the weekend days. General‑admission ticket holders may purchase separate access to those venues.

Organizers note that premium ticket holders are not guaranteed a specific seat or venue once capacity is reached, and they advise fans to arrive early for the performances they wish to see.

Practical information

All tickets are non‑refundable and events will proceed rain or shine. Attendees should purchase tickets only through the official DC JazzFest website to avoid scams. The festival encourages early arrival and offers a range of seating options to accommodate families, seniors, and those seeking a more intimate concert experience.

With its blend of historic venues and modern waterfront stages, the 2026 DC JazzFest promises to celebrate the rich musical heritage of the District while looking forward to the future of jazz in America.
