A 60-year-old man from Daytona Beach was pronounced dead Friday after being brought back to shore in a reported drowning incident at The Hartford Approach in Daytona Beach, according to Volusia County Beach Safety.
Beach Safety responded around 1 p.m., locating the man being held afloat by a kayak operator who had paddled over to help. The man was found unresponsive in the ocean 80 to 100 meters from the shore and was brought to shore where lifeguards immediately began performing life-saving measures before he was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office will handle the investigation, according to Volusia County Beach Safety.
