Dave Matthews, lead singer of the Dave Matthews Band, condemned Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents as ‘a–holes’ during a Friday concert in reference to the recent death of an illegal immigrant in Houston, Texas.
Incident in Houston
According to ICE, the illegal immigrant, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a Mexican citizen, was shot and killed after he allegedly tried to ram U.S. ICE officers with his vehicle during an operation. Matthews expressed his condolences to the family and community of Araujo, while also criticizing the actions of ICE.
Matthews has previously spoken out against ICE, including after the killing of activist Renee Good in Minneapolis. He has expressed his desire for the U.S. to ‘take care of each other’ and to ‘mind each other,’ rather than to ‘terrorize our communities and rip families apart.’
