Dallas Public Library Launches SMART Summer Program with Free Events

The Dallas Public Library is once again hosting its annual SMART Summer program, a citywide initiative designed to engage children and families in educational activities throughout the summer. Starting on Saturday, May 30, and running through August 8, the program offers a variety of free events and challenges aimed at fostering learning and exploration.

Engaging Activities for All Ages

Participants of all ages are invited to partake in a diverse array of programs focusing on science, math, art, reading, and technology. These activities will be held across all Dallas Public Library locations, providing ample opportunities for families to engage in educational pursuits together.

The library has organized interactive science programs, live animal presentations, magic shows, and other hands-on learning experiences to make learning both fun and impactful. These events are designed to help children build confidence and discover new interests in a welcoming environment.

Incentives for Participation

In addition to the educational programs, participants can track their reading and learning activities throughout the summer. This tracking offers them chances to win exciting prizes, including books, board games, and even a Nintendo Switch.

“SMART Summer helps families turn learning into an adventure,” said Manya Shorr, director of the Dallas Public Library. The program aims to create a fun and supportive environment for children to explore and learn.

Kickoff Events Across the City

The program will kick off with parties at several branch libraries, including Lochwood, Fretz Park, Martin Luther King, Jr., North Oak Cliff, and Pleasant Grove, from 10 a.m. to noon on May 30. Attendees can enjoy games, crafts, giveaways, and free books, making it a festive start to the summer.

Denise McGovern, executive director of the Friends of the Dallas Public Library, expressed pride in supporting this initiative, emphasizing the vital role libraries play in serving and supporting the community through engagement and access.
