Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux says drones, technology, and close coordination among North Texas law enforcement agencies are helping the Dallas Police Department improve response times and prepare for major events.
Drone Program
Comeaux discussed the department’s drone-as-first-responder program, which helps determine how many officers need to respond to a scene. A drone can reach the area within minutes and provide crucial information to officers.
“Within a minute to 3 minutes, the drone will be overhead,” Comeaux said. If the drone shows no one remains at the scene, officers can be redirected to higher-priority calls. If the drone shows a larger or more dangerous incident, officers can approach with better information.
Regional Cooperation
Comeaux also discussed safety preparations tied to FIFA events and visitors coming to North Texas. He emphasized the importance of regional cooperation among federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.
“We all get along from federal, state, and local law enforcement,” Comeaux said. “It’s what do we have to do to keep everyone in this region safe.”
