South Dallas residents were shaken early Monday when a Halloween celebration near the intersection of Spring Avenue and Cross Street erupted in gunfire. Police responded to a 2:30 a.m. emergency call and found two victims—a man and a woman—already receiving treatment for gunshot wounds at a local hospital.
Additional injury from fleeing crowd
While officers were on scene, a third victim, a woman, was discovered on the ground with a leg injury. According to Dallas police, a driver who was attempting to leave the area after the shooting struck the woman as she fled the gunfire, then fled the scene. An ambulance later transported her to a hospital for treatment.
Police investigation
Officers recovered a firearm at the location and detained a woman for questioning. Detectives are interviewing the detained woman and other witnesses to determine whether she was involved in the shooting or the vehicle collision. Police have not yet disclosed what triggered the disturbance.
Community response
Local leaders expressed concern for the victims and urged residents to remain vigilant during holiday celebrations. “We are committed to keeping our neighborhoods safe, especially during events that bring large crowds together,” said a spokesperson for the Dallas Police Department.
The department reminded the public that any information about the incident can be reported anonymously through the city’s tip line. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have asked anyone with additional details to come forward.
Previous incidents
The Dallas Express previously reported on a separate shooting in the Deep Ellum neighborhood on August 23 that left three people injured. While that incident is unrelated, it underscores the importance of continued community‑police cooperation to address violent crime in the city.
All three victims from the Halloween incident are expected to make a full recovery, and police continue to pursue leads to bring those responsible to justice.
